Veterans Need Health Care Bill To Pass

We are trying to improve health care in this country for everyone. As today is November 11, 2009, the day we are celebrating Veteran Day in the United States I think that it is appropriate to spend some time writing about health care for our veterans. I was just watching a news report which says that more veterans died last year because of lack of health care than died during the current war in Afghanistan. We all talk about how we need to support our veterans while they are on active duty but what about when they return home. I do agree that we need to support our active duty troops but we really need to have some things in place for when they return home. There is a system in place if a soldier is injured while on active duty but often times the diseases that develope after they get off active duty are not shown until many years later. This means that the veteran is not rated for a service connected disability and will have to pay for treatment at a private doctor. Because so many of the veteran population do not have insurance, the diseases go untreated and can consequently lead to the veteran’s death.

There needs to be a way for veterans to receive treatment for all their disabilities regardless of when they developed. The current VA system only provides treatment for veterans whose disabilities have been rated as service connected. This means that if the veteran has not filed for disability benefits he will not be able to receive treatment at the VA Medical Centers.

There needs to be legislation that provides a way for veterans to buy health insurance as a group. There should be a public option specifically for veterans to purchase insurance. Yes, this particular public option should be subsidized by the taxpayers. It Is time for some of us to put our money where our mouth is. I have noticed that talk show hosts love to say Thank you for your service to veterans as they should, but I wonder how many of these same talk show hosts would be willing to support a plan which provides health insurance to these same veterans. The VA Hospital cannot possibly provide health care for all veterans as they just do not have the resources for this. The United States should however make sure that any returning veteran can get access to health care. After all if it was not for the men and women who served in the military we would not have many of the freedoms we enjoy today.

Veterans today really need to have the health care bill passed Female veterans in particular do not have enough health care available at VA Medical Centers because for so many years the veteran population has been made up of mostly males. The female veterans do not really have money allocated to their needs in most VA Medical Centers. If you want more information on health care see article health care.
